Chronic wounds are those that have failed to proceed through an orderly and timely reparative process to produce anatomic and functional integrity of an injured site. Chronic wounds represent a silent epidemic that affects a large fraction of the population, in developed countries it is estimated that 1 to 2% of the population will experience a chronic wound in their lifetime.

NitricGen’s first indication is for diabetic foot ulcers that are a common and debilitating complication of diabetes. Estimates show that in the US, diabetic foot ulcers affect up to 10% of diabetics and over 5%  of patients the wounds become chronic (those that do not respond to the standard of care). Chronic diabetic ulcers lead to long-term hospitalizations, increased risk of infections and amputation, and in severe cases, death.
